offered to push us out - but asked for the equivilant of almost USD 100 - a locals 2 month salary! They were not in the mood for bargaining much. So we told them we will try ourselves - in any case we would never pay them soooo much. We have several recovery equipment things, and we knew that more cars would be coming from the border after us.

In the course of our digging and putting sand-plates, we realized that the local "helpers" take wood away left behind in the mud by other vehicles for traction - so oncoming vehicles get stuck and they can blackmail them. However, if you pay before you are stuck, they go and put the wood. We were working one hour before the expected vehicles came from the border - and we were glad!
